Paul Was Crazy...
It seems to me that God has put us on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe. To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. Yet when we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; when we are slandered, we answer kindly.
-1 Corinthians 4:9-13I saw this passage on sirnickdon's site. The passage is short, yet so powerful, it really stopped me in my tracks. It challenged me to the core because I want to be like those early-church Christians. In the face of trouble, trial and persecution, I want to endure whatever comes my way and bless others.
Even more so, on a daily basis when I'm faced with small annoyances, like slow service at a restaurant or someone stepping on my foot in the subway, I want to answer kindly.
Paul was truly a man cut from a different cloth. Can you imagine the impression he and the other Christians being persecuted must have left on those who treated them poorly?
What do you think of Paul and the above passage?

Paul really is an INCREDIBLE example. I cannot imagine being such a person as he was....it's amazing.
Paul was crazy, and it would be interesting to hear what he would say about our government/our nation's reaction to that, to being attacked. Would it be a case of application under special circumstances?
It makes me smile
....not at their trials...but thinking about how they didn't adhere to being "normal" and "of the world".
--Jesus didn't follow the rules...he and his disciples stood for the gospel, which required them to "break the worldly rules".
They rocked. Hard-core.
I wrecked my life for Jesus...and there's no turning back :]
I think one of the most amazing parts of Paul's story is that he once was Saul. The man that persecuted, imprisoned and condemned to death hundreds of Christians. Enter the Road to Damascus experience and Saul is Paul. Can you imagine that? As an early Christian you've fled from Jerusalem to God knows where and then all of a sudden this man who had your brother imprisoned or executed steps up as a radically changed man? And your PASTOR?!
That is so amazing to me and shows me so much of God's incredible ability to truly renew and restore and redeem.
And, yes, Paul was super hard-core. An amazing example of what a Christian should look like.
I think I'm going to enjoy meeting Paul one day!
I, think it's a mighty big bill to fill being an apostle. By what's said in the scripture reference you've indicated above, it was much more difficult being an apostle than a Christian could ever think about. Apostleship is just not handed out to anyone that simply says, "Yeah, I think I wanna do that." Christians endeavoring to fill that not so desired office for the Lord must be tried and tested assiduously before their peers and God before ever carrying out any of its duties.
Still, as you, I too as a Christian want to follow in the footsteps of Paul and his peers (apostles) and endeavor to endure the worst trials and tribulations of my life and bless those who come along my way.
Good post!
Amen
i love paul, and his teachings
i wish i had as much patience and perserverance as him, and others in th Biblei can only hope that God will built it up in meI appreciate your asking ppl to comment on Scripture rather than give their opinion on something less consequential.
It seems Paul's struggle had much more to do with people who were religious according to the Law rather than with pagans.
Today, it seems the danger remains the same. We can live by grace as Paul did, or by Law. Paul's fight was that we might receive the truth according to the gospel, which is that we are saved by faith alone, and that we should live by grace rather than Law.
i wish more christians were like paul. hes amazing.
