Casting the Bible Movie: Titanic Throwback- Kate and Leo
by revelife crew
Great job, casting directors! according to the stats on the previous Casting the Bible Movie post, David Hasselhoff would play Solomon or Saul, while Ellen DeGeneres would play Noah's wife or Sarah.Anyway, it's time to cast another Hollywood movie or two. This time, you need to cast Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet (though not necessarily in the same film.) Who would they play?

Have fun! Over the weekend, we'll compile the answers to reveal Revelife's casting selections!

This is the first 'Casting the Bible Movie' post I've read. Would someone really cast Ellen DeGeneres as Sarah? I don't recall Sarah being a lesbian.
Call me "no fun" but I don't believe we should be comparing celebrities to people in the Bible. How does that further the gospel? And what does it really have to do with anything? And why in the world would we compare a Biblical woman such as Sarah, who, yes was a sinner, but had faith in God, to Ellen DeGeneres, who, by her lifestyle, shows no faith or regard for God?
Just my two cents for the day...
Are they actually doing this or is this just an idea?
Okay stupid question I hink I already know the answer.
My sister Linda should Play eve and some bright blue eyed dude thats really hot should play adam.
Leo DiCaprio would make a good Othniel, I think. Take the city with the big walls, win the girl... sounds like a Leo role.
As for Kate, howabout we get her to play Jael? Not a big role, more of a cameo really, but I bet she could do a great angry-face when she drives that tent peg through Sisera's face.
@chiltons99@xanga - If we had to wait for celebrities with lifestyles that showed faith and regard for God, our movie would have, what, two actors?
@ChrisRusso@xanga - True, we aren't supposed to be waiting on celebrities. We are supposed to be waiting on God, and furthering the gospel.
However, there are lots of Christian movies that are quite entertaining, and very good, and do not have obviously unbelieving actors/actresses in them. And yes, there are a lot more than two actors in them.
Being "entertained" is not more important than God. We are not to compromise God's standards just so we can watch the latest movies! Any true Christian knows that...and believes it!
@chiltons99@xanga - Unfortunately I have to disagree with you on the entertaining-ness of most "Christian movies." With so many it seems you have an either-or choice between Artistic Quality and Theological Depth. Rare is the "Christian movie" that combines both.
We're totally tangenting this post now, though--so let's move this conversation elsewhere. I'll host it on my blog, if you like.
You can disagree - I didn't expect otherwise. You don't have to like Christian entertainment...but it still does not change the fact that the latest movies the world promotes are against Christ. And it doesn't change the fact that Christ's standards are not to be compromised for the sake of entertainment.
Wow. You don't realize til you see the younger pictures that they're both starting to show their age. Anyway, I could see Kate (younger Kate, anyway) as Abagail (David's wife). Maybe even Rahab.
For Leo (current Leo), I'd say maybe Luke?
Far as the previous comments, I don't think we're comparing celebrities to Biblical figures. We're just using our imaginations--kind of like the question, what would you do with a million dollars. None of us expects to win a million dollars; it's just something fun to think about. We're pondering, if I had to choose a real person who could somehow act in a Bible movie, who could pull off a fair portrayal. I mean, aren't church plays and the actors playing princes and princesses at Disneyland more or less the same kind of thing?
ananias and sapphira.
that's just the first thing that popped in mind, hahahaha.
@chiltons99@xanga - true but i also think that just because a movie doesnt glorify christ doesnt mean we shouldnt be able to watch and enjoy it.
I vote for di Caprio to play Cain. That would be fun. Then he'd get to emote.
As for Kate Winslet, I don't know... she's sort of a blah actress to me. She might make a fun Rebekah.
@jhaguar13@xanga - I never said people should solely watch Christian movies. I just made the argument that there is good entertainment that has more than 2 actors (who are not of Ellen DeGeneres's lifestyle) that can be just as entertaining.
Psalm 101:3 says "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes..." You don't have to watch Christian movies, no one does! But again, it doesn't mean the movies the world promotes are "entertaining" or should be "enjoyed" if they promote what God is against. If it does notglorify God...who does it glorify? When we choose that form of entertainment and enjoy it...are we looking for ways Christ can be and is glorified in it, or are we just enjoying what the world lays before us? (James 4:4 - friendship with the world is enmity with God)
@chiltons99@xanga - It's not really about whether their lifestyles match or not...or even personalities...just who would do the character best in a movie. I mean, there was a huge stink about Chad Allen, a homosexual, playing Nate and Steve Saint as adults in End of the Spear...but I think it's an incredible opportunity to share the true love of Jesus with people that most Christians run away from and deride. In fact, Chad made a statement that he never heard an unkind word from anyone on the set and really felt at ease with them. And what a message in that story for him to be a part of! Besides, this is not going to really happen, just getting people's thoughts on it.
I would cast Leo and Kate as David and Bathsheba. Leo really likes the powerful and yet imperfect leading men, and for once, he won't play someone who has an untimely death. :) And Kate really loves to play diverse roles, I think she would be great for that.
@xapatotheworld - It was just my two cents...and it's all about Christ to me!
@xapatotheworld - I never knew about the casting in End of the Spear. You are so right -- what a great opportunity to show Christ's love. That goes for any non-Christian acting in a film with a Christian message.
I think they would play a good adam and eve because leo is a nice young man who seems smart and has recently played in good action movies yet is young enough to still be innocent and want to do the right thing... them comes kate the bueatiful girl that seems to be about perfect yet can pursuade leo into doing somthing that is not right hince the first sin .... and ppl will enjoy seeing them work together for the third time ...
Kate, hair dyed dark and curly, would be a perfect Mary Magdalene. Leonardo would, in my opinion, play an awesome Pontius Pilot.
I say Leo as Jacob, Kate as Rachael and bring back Ellen DeGeneres to play Leah. Heck bring the Hoff in as well to play Isaac.
@chiltons99@xanga - Totally agree!
I think Leo wouldn't fit in unless his hair was darker. He's too light complected. And he doesn't look like a Hebrew.
Kate looks Irish, so honestly I don't think she'd do well either.
But the too are good actors, maybe that can overcome the fact they could never pass as Hebrews?!
@chiltons99@xanga - i dont think its completely worng to enjoy everything the world sets before us though... certainly we should use discernment in our media choices. heck i have another blog devoted toreviewing games for teens from a christian perspective.
@jhaguar13@xanga - We are always to remember that Jesus Himself tells us that we are in this world, but we are not of it (John 15:19, John 17:14-16), and also that friendship with the world is enmity with God. (James 4:4)
If people use Godly discernment - wonderful! More times than not, Godly discernment would tell us to stay away from what the world puts in our faces. But again - the emphasis there is using Godly discernment!
hmm... i'll cast kate winslet as mary magdalene and leonardo as judas-- he'd have a lot of emotional scenes
kate would be a good ruth and leonardo would be a good david.
