@no_more_grace@xanga - I meant ourselves corporately. For too long the Body of Christ has not liked being open for examination... but we should be, it was in Jesus day and it should be today. Not everything that is done by 'Christians' is done in Jesus name or with his approval.
Christians should be able to praise anyway they want to...
Did you all know that In-N-Out have proverbs at the very bottom of their cups?
Yeah, mine says "Proverbs:3:5"
@Tom - cornerstone is totally wonderful. it works as both a totally awesome worship experience for Chrisitians but it also serves as an intimidation-free environment for mostly young people to explore what Chrisitianity might mean to them.
As far as trying to figure out what Revelife is all about....it is about what the users want it to be about. We have a "venue" here to express ourselves (doubts, concerns, praises, questions, testamonies, journeys) and others who are in this boat with us can join in or not. There are as many varied needs and experiences as there are people. Why is that hard to understand?
And, why can't we make fun of each other. It's like the jokes we tell about our brothers at home. Their silly antics. Posting that video provoked some people to say..."yeah, it's silly" and others to say "hey that looks like fun". Don't see how that is "mocking". More like affectionate humor.
@Mom4Him@xanga - I have to agree with you on this! Let's not stand on ceremony and let technicalities get in the way. The band leader had a good point when he invited the crowd to come before the LORD 'barefoot'. God tells us that where one or two are gathered in His name, He will be there also, therefore making it a holy place.
Maybe this is just a new spin on an old idea - the taking off before you can put on the new. But I see no harm in it. And if we are going to sit here and judge these people for spinning socks, then we probably have better things to do.
Let us dance like David danced...and yes, that probably looked a bit crazy and insane. That is okay! But whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Some of the most powerful worship experiences I have had have
been barefoot. Even now, if I am worshiping God at home or at church..
I take my shoes off.. (weather permitting! yay Canadian winter).. I
think, for me, it comes back to Moses and the Burning Bush.. were God
told Moses to take off his sandals because he was standing on Holy
ground. Well.. are we not standing on Holy ground when we worship?
So I am all for bare-foot-worship .. It sounds nutty but it is an awesome experience.I am not sure about the spinning socks.. sounds kind of smelly.. ha ha.. but after watching this Pastor, you can see that his heart is in the right place and that He loves to worship.
Worship doesn't have to mean standing in your pew nodding along with a song (my church is good at this). David danced before God ALL the time.. so much so people thought he was crazy.. but he loved God and loved to worship him.
I think there is going to be a lot of dancing and barefoot worship up in heaven.
this made me laugh, I'll be honest, especially some of the lyrics... I don't know if he's improvising or if he had the song all planned out. I can imagine it all like, "Okay, first we'll start off with our Jesus-Spin-Me song. Adam you get that beat going. Then we'll play that thing a few times then move to the... I don't know, guys."
"Uh, how about 'Wave your hands like you just don't care'?"
"Dude! Duuuude! That's brilliant! We should definitely bring that back in. Alright! sweeet."
But then again is there really a "right" way to worship? Well, of course we do have some standards and structure to decent worship, but if a worship team, such as this, were to deviate from that structure into something else uncommon, are we still allowed to say it is wrong?
I doubt I would actually be able to hack this kind of worship though. Looks like too much jumping, and I don't know if I can jump for 9 mins straight xP But hey, if you can, more power to you!
Having the sound off, I watched this and could not tell by looking there was anything Christian about it. If it looks like the world....
generally, when you put up a video on a blog, it should be no longer than a minute and a half and needs something to happen before thirty seconds in. If I wanted to see some fat, stupid, asshole walk around on a stage, i'd go see a bare naked ladies show.
don't attend... :p...
Friends let friends praise however they want.
Doesn't God appreciate all praise, as long as it's heartfelt?Doesn't God love to see people joyously gathered in His name?Doesn't God encourage us to dance and sing in his name?Friends don't let Christian friends post blogs like this...
Although I believe worship can take place in many different forms, this is questionable.
Honestly, it's not the socks, I have a problem with the shallow lyrics and dance party going on (mostly the lyrics). You should find joy in your worship music, but I couldn't tell if people were filled with the Holy Spirit of the beat of the music.
As a worship leader, I find the focus of the worship service and lyrics of the music to be a big deal. "Spin me around Jesus" was the deepest phrase in the whole song. I don't mind the dancing too much, but the lyrics are just frustrating; even if this was a "fun song". I really wonder where the focus of the audience was.
Two are on the same level: one was a meeting with the "elders" at an old church, which was a just a shouting session about homos and bastard children.
The other was at a superbowl party for the church's youthgroup when the host of the party took it upon himself to shut down the party and explain why in-vitro fertilization was evil. Apparently there had been a commercial on the television about it and most of us hadn't seen it, but he still felt compelled to completely kill the buzz.
I swear, if there were no homos, scientists or bastards, that church would have nothing to do with itself.
Inappropriate worship is often amusing. This really is inappropriate worship... and it is hilarious. I don't think this is what God meant by worship in the beauty of holiness.
whatda... lol
Oh my goodness! I was AT this event! Rick Pino is decidedly strange, awesome, but strange. Think, Tenacious D/Jack Black on a Holy Spirit high. Some people though, really need to think before they take off their socks....
At the Cornerstone Musical Festival a few years back, I had the chance to hook up with and chat with a few self-proclaimed "Christian Goths"
I never quite understood that, as it seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me. But then again, I'm not in their shoes, so who am I to judge?
i happen to love this video because they are having fun in worship which in some churches is "outlawed."
i can't think of any really "out there" church events i've been to.
@no_more_grace@xanga - Every now and then Christians need to be mocked. Perhaps it'll help us be more aware of how we're presenting ourselves, how we're looking to the rest of humanity. At the very least, it's because sometimes Christians are just rather funny.
Ahahhaa...you spin me right round Jesus...it's great to convert 80s pop into Christian rock I guess lol
Woww...Uhm the strangest I've ever experienced was when I was about 10 and the pastor "annointed" me with oil and attempted to knock me over like on one of those BOGUS Benny Hinn things..hahah I was like, I'm not going ANYWHERE!
@ChrisRusso@xanga - well said bro!
Maybe this is what they mean when somebody says, "it'll bless your sox off!" Just looks like some people having fun at a concert to me... a freedom we currently all enjoy in this country.
@willow_ann209@xanga - well i think they're trying to say that sometimes Christians get caught up in doing crazy stuff like this that they forget they're being crazy for Jesus.
Of course, I can't be certain. I just know this because this happens at my church at times [not exactly sock-spinning, but you get my drift].
@metal_core1@xanga - exactly!
we have this same problem at our church.
people don't exactly pay attention to the lyrics, but if the beat is catchy they'll start jumping and shouting. :/ it gets frustrating.
Hey, wait! When did Jack Black become a Christian?
