Old School Praise Songs Take Me Back...
by Eunhee123
This past weekend I had the chance to look through a lot of my old stuff...pictures, clothes and music.
I love the way a song or an album can take me back to memories I had forgotten. I got a chance to look over a lot of old school praise songs. I had totally forgotten them.
Musically they are so simple... repetitive...predictable...but lyrically they're sound and come from a heart of humility. Maybe the melody being so simple is a good thing... 1) it seems more childlike, 2) it puts less emphasis on the instrumentation (which can be a form of praise for some but not for all) and 3) focuses on singing to our Father...
Anywhoo, maybe I can get one stuck in your head...
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and graceTurn your thoughts upon Jesus
Think deep of His wonderful love
And the thoughts of sin and of self and strife
Will be lost in that rapture above. You are my Shepherd I have no needs
You lead me by peaceful streams
and you refresh my lifeYou hold my hand and you guide my steps
I could walk through the valley of death
And I won't be afraid
Because you.. are in Control...///you are in Control///In your name we've gathered here
Our God so great and true
We have come with grateful hearts
To simply say to youLord you are so kind (echo ladies!)
And you are so faithful (ladies...)
You have be so.. good to us
And we are so thankful...What's your favorite old school praise song or hymn?
PS- Has anyone heard the Grace song?
Grace, grace
Lord I thank you for grace
KEEP IT COMING UGH!People think I made that song up...

Argh, you certainly succeeded in getting the "Turn your eyes upon Jesus" song stuck in my head.
It has a pretty tune so I will not object too much.
My favourite hymns are "Praise Ye the Lord" and "Be Thou My Vision". As far as old-school praise songs, I really like "He Is Exalted". I actually love a lot of hymns and old praise songs. They are so beautiful melodically and are so eloquent.
I've never heard the Grace song. Sorry!
I just finished a blog about a mission trip I went on this summer in Kenya and I'm looking to see if anyone would like to read it and to get an understanding of what a mission trip is like.

I find it interesting that there is a pic of Obama on this blog considering that he won't acknowledge that life begins at conception. Anyway, Keith Green still remains one of the best ever...
I remember the first time I ever heard "Shine, Jesus, Shine," in the 80s shortly after it had come out.
I also remember the first time I ever heard "Shine, Jesus, Shine" referred to as an "old-school hymn"...
watsup...
@Pass_the_Aura@xanga - that's hilarious! (the old school hymn thing)
El Shaddai (spelling?) holds many fond memories for me...
anything in Latin.
Part of the reason I can't stand Christian music is because it sucks musically. They need to get it together!
No you haven't made up that song. It's a fun praise song.
I love old school praise songs! I've heard of that Grace song too.. but I've never sung it!
Remember "Just the time?" Such a good song. As is "undying love." :D
King Jesus is all, my all in all
And I know that He'll answer me when I call
Walking by my side, I'm satisfied
King Jesus is all, my all in all...
haha
"He's an on time God, yes he is...ohhhhhh
On time God, yes he is...
He may not come when ya want Him
but He'll be there right on time..."
Gotta love Dottie Peoples...
...and my favorite hymn is Precious Lord and Lamb of God
I recall the very first Church Choir I was in. We did this song that keeps getting stuck in my head even now :
Almighty, most holy God! Faithful through the ages..
This line is a bit more poignant years later as jaded as I have become:
"Well time marches on with innocence gone,
and a darkness has covered the earth.
But His spirit dwells, He speaks, "It is well"
and the hopeless still offered new birth..."
thanks for sharing
good memories those...
some days i just seem to lose
cry my tears and sing the blues
but there's no life i'd rather choose
than living in God's grace!
haha i play that song sometimes when I jam with friends and they think im crazy too.
my favorite old-school hymn is "as the deer," which I listen to whenever I feel really sad! "be thou my vision" is definitely way up there too though, as it was my high school class' graduation hymn.
