  • Old School Praise Songs Take Me Back...

    box of cds

This past weekend I had the chance to look through a lot of my old stuff...pictures, clothes and music.

I love the way a song or an album can take me back to memories I had forgotten. I got a chance to look over a lot of old school praise songs. I had totally forgotten them.

Musically they are so simple... repetitive...predictable...but lyrically they're sound and come from a heart of humility. Maybe the melody being so simple is a good thing... 1) it seems more childlike, 2) it puts less emphasis on the instrumentation (which can be a form of praise for some but not for all) and 3) focuses on singing to our Father...

Anywhoo, maybe I can get one stuck in your head...

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

    Turn your thoughts upon Jesus
Think deep of His wonderful love
And the thoughts of sin and of self and strife
Will be lost in that rapture above.

You are my Shepherd I have no needs
You lead me by peaceful streams
    and you refresh my life

You hold my hand and you guide my steps
I could walk through the valley of death
    And I won't be afraid
Because you.. are in Control...///you are in Control///

In your name we've gathered here
Our God so great and true
We have come with grateful hearts
    To simply say to you

Lord you are so kind (echo ladies!)
And you are so faithful (ladies...)
You have be so.. good to us
    And we are so thankful...

What's your favorite old school praise song or hymn?

PS- Has anyone heard the Grace song?
    Grace, grace
Lord I thank you for grace
    KEEP IT COMING UGH!

People think I made that song up...
