  • Biblical Celebrities: Who Would You Want to Meet in Heaven?

    goldenrod by miss goldenrod

    cloudsheaven

Here's a fun question: Not including a member of the Trinity, which person from the Bible are you most excited to meet in Heaven and why?

I was watching Walking the Bible last night and when the narrator mentioned walking in the footsteps of Moses, I let out a tiny, geeky squeal!  I said to God that I am so looking forward to meeting this guy.  I'll probably gush and fawn over him like a twelve-year old girl would over Hannah Montana.

I'll say, “Oh my goodness, it’s you!  It’s Moses!  I am such a huge fan of yours!  Here, would you sign my Bible?!  How did you ever put up with those people?!”

Suddently, it was as if the Holy Spirit chimed in for Moses in this imaginary dialogue and said, “Oh my goodness, it’s you! Oh wow...I’m just crazy about when you did ______.”

And that’s where “Moses” stopped talking, and I was reminded of this:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.  Hebrews 12:1, NIV

This verse immediately follows the famous Faith chapter, the veritable "who's-who?" of the Bible's greatest persons.  Hebrews says we are surrounded by all of these people, meaning that my hero Moses is watching what I'm doing.

In filling in for Moses, what was the Holy Spirit saying?  Was he telling me that Moses will have just as much to compliment me on?  Was he saying that I have an opportunity to make something of my life which could cause Moses to have something to gush over?  Was he saying both?

According to Hebrews, all the greats of the Bible are watching us.  Imagine the reception Martin Luther might have received from all those mentioned in Hebrews 11.  Or Mother Teresa.  Did King James get some congenial slaps on the back for commissioning a translation of the scripture?  What of all the martyrs that are dying still today for Jesus?!  Imagine their reception!

So, when you think of which Scriptural Celebrity you're going to run to find after meeting God, Jesus, family members, and beloved pets, take a moment and remember that you've done some things as well and that just perhaps your hero may be running to find you.

Who are you excited to meet in Heaven?

I'd like to talk with Adam and Eve.  They were perfect in a perfect world for a while.  I would like to know what that was like.  I'd also like to hear how they felt about all that transpired after the fall.  I think they would have a very unique perspective I would like to see from.

@Zayin_michael@xanga - I've spent quite a few years refining my belief system and I've done a lot of research on the subject.   I, too, was raised Christian.  It wasn't until I actually read the Bible outside of any devotional / Bible study classes that I became solidified in my atheism.

  • bittersunday@xanga

@leadworshipper82 - I think you are assuming I am a Christian in your comment.  I am not.  I think I've been pretty open about my non-beliefs on this site, but maybe you missed that.

And I couldn't disagree with god even if I wanted to because I don't believe god exists.

  • abcdefghijklouise@xanga

Well I would REALLY love to meet Johnny Cash - but he's not from the Bible =) bummer.

From the Bible, I'd love to meet Daniel, Mary, and Martha's sister, Mary.

Y'know, Zaccheus would be interesting. As would the Ethiopian and Phillip. How tripped out is it for a guy to just disappear?? Haha, it kinda reminds me of Hiro Nakamora(sp)... "YATTA!!!!!" lol... Sorry, I'm tired...

David, Stephen,Mary's, Eve, Ruth, Sara, I would like to meet solomon and ask how he could let these women turn away his faith! But..I'm not sure he will be there :(

  • Miss_Goldenrod

@bittersunday@xanga - I completely agree with you on your sentiments of Paul.  I personally have thanked Jesus for him often, because he did make many things so clear...but then he says some really crazy things...  Thank you for being so honest in your initial comment; it made me laugh.

  • Miss_Goldenrod

@Pariahtich@xanga - Love your list.  You obviously have given it thought, and I might tag along with you on the day you go visiting!

@AnieT@xanga - Thank you.  Holy Spirit's point to me exactly; just appears you got there on your own.

@JandJinJapan@xanga - I've heard that before too, heavenly vs. earthly; perhaps it's both, as the latter definitely stands.

@Pickwick12@xanga - You're exactly right: we have eternity to learn.  Apparently where the rest of our brain matter is going to find use! :)  As for Jesus on earth, I can't wait to find out from him, his parents, and his siblings just what kind of kid he was.  The idea of changing God's diaper...what Mary and Joseph must have thought!

  • bittersunday@xanga

@Miss_Goldenrod - Glad I made someone laugh.  ^^  That was the point of the comment (even if I do want to punch Paul sometimes, srsly).

  • Miss_Goldenrod

@TheMarriedFreshman@xanga - Oh my goodness, that's right about the Ethiopian.  However, I've heard that this sort of thing is happening in Asia right now!  We just need to find some of these people.

@abcdefghijklouise@xanga - Hopefully Cash will be there; his life is one tale.  As for Daniel, I agree.  He and his three friends really stood out from the rest of the Hebrew boys; I'd like to hear what happened to those three friends after the furnace...

  • JandJinJapan@xanga

I feel it is for the latter. Otherwise, why would we need to throw off the sin that so easily bests us?  Those in heaven are untouched by sin and temptation, but those on earth.....

  • WoundedScapegoat@xanga

    Jesus.

Also I might like to meet:  The Apostles Paul, Barnabus, Peter, Thomas, and John.  Also, John the Baptist, The Prophets Daniel, Elijah, Elisha, and Jeremiah.  Shadrach, Meshach and Abednigo.  King's David and Solomon.  Joseph, Abraham, Noah, Methusaleh, Enoch, Job, Able and Adam.

  • Made2sing4Jesus@xanga

@Zayin_michael@xanga -  I think I like you..go to my site a couple days back ..I asked if Debate was a Biblical Principle...? Do you know most don't even know what a  principle is apparently.

  • leadworshipper82

@bittersunday@xanga - oh not at all... you've expressed that most poignantly...

my comment was on the basis of asking as to the veracity of your investigation of the Scriptures... but then again... you have noted clearly that you attended a Christian college and have again stated your thorough study of the Scriptures... which i guess in my mind would have made the most foolish assumption of your profession of faith in Christ which enables one to call themselves a "Christian"... but by no means did i place that upon you in making my comment...

of which i retract said comment...

because you are fully aware of the Bible being a reliable collection of historical documents written by eyewitnesses who wrote the said stuff while other eyewitnesses were living... and the fact that the Bible reports supernatural events... which were in fact fulfilled in accordance with SPECIFIC prophecies that make the Bible the authoritative Word of God... whether you believe it or not...

but you probably already knew this... which again i retract comment eariler...

  • concert_princess@xanga

Jonah, Job, Paul, Peter, Esther, Mary Magdalene, Noah... quite a few! The Bible is my family history. I am inspired by how they held on to faith, as well as doubted. They were human. But they knew how great God's power is

  • methodElevated@xanga

I find it interesting that you assume you'll be self-aware in an afterlife... let alone maintain the same memories and the same point of view you had as a flesh-and-blood human.  You assume you would even care about something like that when you die.

Have you ever stopped to think that you might change and become something altogether alien to what you are/understand now when you "meet your maker"?

    Silly humans.

  • china_doll26@xanga

I want to be able to meet St. John the Apostle.. He is a Visioner.. :)

  • tilling_a_star@xanga

I'd want to meet everyone!... but then I'd probably meet only a couple because I would be too embarrassed to meet their saintly selves with my rather, er, nonbiblical self. Well, maybe I'll get around to people when I get used to heaven. But only then.

-- do we need to get "used" to heaven, when it's supposed to be our right home? Do you think we'll be able to feel, "I'm home" the moment we step foot in those gates?

@methodElevated@xanga: well, I think is question is asking who we would want to meet if we were to go to heaven in our current mindsets-- there's no way of predicting who we'd be in the future, so that means that we wouldn't be able to predict who we'd want to meet in the future, too.

"Silly humans." Oh my, are you an alien? O.o

  • heidenkind@xanga

What a great question.  I'd like to meet Cain.  What was up with that guy?  Was he an angry person?  What does the Mark of Cain look like?  Did he feel guilty for killing Abel?  Did he understand the concept of death?  So many questions....

  • trishran5@xanga

I'd like to meet St Paul. Definitely one of my greatest heros!

    T.

  • OstentatiousEloquence@xanga

    Tom Cruise, Roseanne, Scarlett Johansson

    That's it, I think.

  • mo_chic_for_jesus@xanga

Good stuff.  It reminds me that, just because my name's never gonna show up in the Bible, the things I do matter for the kingdom of God.  I'd love to meet Enoch (of the "walked with God and was no more" fame).  I'd love to find out what it's like to have that kind of intimacy with God.

  • sammjane@xanga

I can't wait to meet Adam and Eve, because there's no documentation of conversations between them. I'd love to hear what their first reactions of each other were.

  • WoundedScapegoat@xanga

Also, I'd like to meet Melchezedek, the Prophet, Priest and King, the prophet Isaiah, Noah, and Luke the physician.

  • LadyLibellule@xanga

Well, according to Christians, I'm not going to heaven (they'd say I'm probably going straight to hell!).  But I think hanging out with Eve would be cool.  There's a woman who was thirsty for knowledge and thought for herself.  I'd also like to get her take on what it's like to be the person who's blamed for all the world's troubles.  That must suck.  (Is a troublemaker like that even in heaven?)

But, since I'm going to hell, I might have a nice chat with Lucifer.  At that point I wouldn't have to worry about being guilty by association as I'd already be suffering many fiery tortures.  Lucifer's kind of intriguing, anyway.  A former angel who was cast out of heaven for being ambitious seems like he'd be an interesting dude to have a conversation with.  But then, I've always been one to play devil's advocate!
