What is funny about this question is that it actually offends me. How pathetic is it that we "shop" for churches? American consumerism has  turned us Christians into self-centered creatures that shop around for the church that has the best music, the most charismatic pastor, or the best programs. I am not knocking churches who have these things, they are blessed. My point is that our focus when moving churches (hopefully just because you moved to a new town) should be on where can God use me? I have learned in my time as both a church member and a minister that what I want is not at all important in comparison to What God wants and where he needs me to serve.

My home church: I went there a few times with my mom when we were still looking for a church. When I'm not away at school, I love coming back to it.

At school: They were advertising during the first week of school. I went to the church picnic and everyone was really warm and friendly and welcoming. (plus they said the magic words: free food after every service)   IT really has been an incredible blessing, though. It's aimed at college students, so everything about the church (it's an affiliate of a "regular" church) is geared toward college and life beyond it and how to God is "applicable" to the here and now, not just the distant "when I grow up..." future

We just recently moved so we are in the process of picking a new church.  We have never really been in this position before and it has taken some time to find the place that God wants us to worship and serve.

oooh I love my home church!!!  They are a church plant with the mission to serve the inner city community around them.  I love seeing everyone work so hard for the Lord.

I was born into a church and though I didn't really pick it to begin with, I've tried attending other youth groups and such and none of them feel quite as comfy as the one I'm in right now.

I do prefer smaller churches though.

My best friend and I had both been attending a church in Beltsville, MD our last year of college and had been invited by our sorority sister to visit her church in Towson, MD always telling us how awesome the Word and the worship experience was. So, one Sunday that my mom was visiting from Florida we decided to all go and there was just something that clicked for me there. I knew that me visiting was divinely ordained by God. I didn't join that Sunday...we continued to attend for several weeks alerting our former church of our decision and officially joined soon thereafter. I was so glad that I was obedient. Joining Kingdom Worship Center in Towson, MD was one of the best decisions I made on so many levels. If you're ever in the area I invite you to come visit.

    God Bless

I've been going since I was born. Thanks to my "we won't take no for an answer" parents.

If you believe God is the same yesterday as he is today...then you should be looking for an organized religion as it was organized in the days of the bible. A church that is the same everywhere you go, not different just because you go to a different building. Also, I want to point out that people aren't perfect, they might not come up and greet you when you go to church, but do you go up and greet others?? It's the doctrine of the church that you should be going to church for, not the people. And I believe that if you really want to know which church is true, all you have to do is ask God to help you find it, and with your efforts and his you will find the truth.

wow, since when did xanga become this uber christian site? I starting going to my church when I was a teenager and I've been there ever since.  I actually don't even remember the last time I visited another church on a Sunday, but now that our service is at 2PM, there are a lot of other churches I may attend in the morning, just to see how things are going, and to encourage other ministries.

I think you should pick a church where you can grow spiritually and can serve.  In the end, you need to be blessed or else you aren't really growing spiritually.  Serving is secondary to that, I think.  We can't serve if we're spent or spiritually dry.  I think things like good praise is a plus, but I think a solid sermon and true, healthy fellowship are more important.  In the end, I think we should be committed to a church instead of perpetually church hopping/shopping.  That doesn't really help anyone.

I don't go to church to be entertained or to be in a community, but to receive the eucharist, to be in communion with God, and develop a stronger relationship with God to loosen my bonds here on earth.

When this became my pure intention, I soon found a community to belong to, serve with, and relate to; which soon became a second family.

So I say any church can be sufficient, because going to mass or services is all for God's glory, not our own. With open hearts and pure intentions, God will take care of our needs

I've dropped the conventional church thing, at least for now.  I've been in the system for over a quarter of a century and cannot bear to insert myself in another one.  As it is I have joined two small groups which seem oriented toward doing what the vast majority of churches I've attended have neglected - teaching and encouraging one another to develop their one on one intimacy with our God, as in the first commandment.  We love Him because He first loved us.  Without the continuous receiving of that love we can do nothing and we are not changed any further.
