Do You Know What the Verse Matthew 24:27 Says?!
I was randomly perusing my revelife subs and I came across this video (please watch 'til the end):
I totally didn't expect the ending and it startled me!! (ok so I let out a little shriek at work
). What did you think of it? Scare tactic or an effective way of evangelizing?

it startled me too
I'd say it's a true statement. He can come anytime.
Well, certainly not a good way of evangelizing. It was kind of awkward, I thought. But whatever.
As I've said before on this site, the idea that the church will all of a sudden be taken away from earth (aka the rapture) really doesn't have much biblical support.
For one thing, that guy that was left behind was just too clean-cut to play an unbeliever!
I think that this may be effective for some people, but it's so cheezy and manipulative that it probably damages our message more than helps communicate it. Plus, I think it's probably just plain incorrect that there will be a rapture. We live in a cynical world--we can't play around with cheap tricks if we're going to reach it.
I've seen this before and I don't think it is a scare tactic. I definitely think it is a good way of evangelizing. It's a good wake up call for those of us (including myself) who have been taking a spiritual nap. Like dang...I really need to get my life together, I need to really start living for Jesus because I do not want to get left behind Like my pastor says, "I want the first train outta here!" But seriously though if you really think about it, it is a very realistic way of getting people to look at this seriously. How soon we forget that Jesus is coming and it is more severe than we think. Idk if anyone else will fess up but I know I've been slacking spiritually... :/

That passage is in no way talking about a rapture. Check out my last blog.
I jumped!
It's probably effective some of the time, but not all of the time.
And really, is scaring people in to Christianity a good idea? Does it produce long term effects? ie: Is that person still a Christian 5? 10? 20 years down the road?
it certainly is unforgettable.
Woah. Hahaha.
after my heart restarted... haha i've seriously never felt my heart jump like that!
but i think this is a good wake-up call for Christians who are backsliding and/or just doing their own thing more so than something that should be used to reach out to the lost. i know that when i was lost, i would have just rolled my eyes and went on to a different video. but now it served as a reminder to me that He could come at any time and that i should be living my life the right way instead of getting lazy and comfortable in my faith.
thanks for posting! :)
wow that was intense. thanks for posting it.
Even if the rapture was really based on Scripture there would still be alot of more people still there hehe. Hell they probably wouldn't notice anyone missing until the sermon is over.
for the people who do not believe in the rapture, what are your thoughts on the passage:
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
they showed this exact video over the big screen in my church one sunday and the whole room was completely silent afterwards, i think it's both; an effective scare tactic
@Theophilus166@xanga - You are correct. St. Matthew XXIV:xxxiv says that all that stuff happened almost two millennia ago. Everybody likes the verse he read but ignores the verses after it. Sorry, but the whole rapture stuff was just a doctrine invented by men in the nineteenth century, similar to the chiliast heresy.
@Jkim19@xanga - That passage says that the Lord will descend at His second advent with the call of the trumpet. It says nothing about the faithful being pulled out of the world and leaving everybody else behind in order to fulfill Tim LaHaye's prophecies. St. Matthew XXIV:xxxiv says that all the verses that everybody thinks of that describe the end of the world would happen to the generation of the Apostles.
In my experience it is not wise to prescribe certain tactics, nor to dismiss them. It is better to be led by the Spirit as to what to say and how to respond in each individual circumstance. Pray before you answer and wait for the answer from Him.
I've seen that before. :) I really enjoyed it.
@hazeL_eyed_mami08@xanga - yeah mama same here. i agree with that whole paragraph completely!!!!
I think it is an attempt at scaring people into Christianity. Not nearly as bad as the "hell hell hell hell hell! hell hell hell! hell!" people but still. And honestly, I'm not all that pursuaded by this video in the first place.
I think its a wake up call to all of us. Why does everyone have to turn this video around to make it seem negative? If anything, be grateful to these people who made it. They're reminding you of what is to come and for you to be ready!!!!
well, we;ve done the whole rapture thing at our church as a play and people really did get it after it was over. We surely didn't use it on unbelievers. The last thing people need to think about Christians is that we're ALL a bunch of crazy wide eyed fanatics...
