Question of the Day: Have you ever been on a mission trip? Where did you go?
by revelifecrewSummer is usually the busiest time of year for short term mission trips. Have you ever gone on a mission trip or are you planning on going in the future? If so, where?

ive been on one to Mexico
and one to Charlotte/Monroe, NC
God did amazing things on both! :)
I've been to Hermosillo and Tuba City. Both were amazing experiences! My youth group has been to Yucatan and Puerto Rico. Sometime I hope to be able to go with them.
I've done inner city ministry in downtown LA & also short term missions to Ensenada and Mexicali, Mexico. Recently, I went on a short term mission to Siem Reap, Cambodia to teach english.
Yes, 3 times, I think. When we were in college the church my husband's (then boyfriend) family belonged to had a program where the college youth group would spend the first full week of the year down in Mission, Texas, helping rebuild houses for the poor. We went 3 of the 5 years that we were in college. Those were great times, we did amazing work. Neither of us were that religious at the time, so it was nice that the trips were mostly about doing service for others without a lot of preaching (I find that's probably the best way to reach out to people, anyway, to lead by example rather than shove Bibles down their throats). It felt so good to help people, to give people homes (my first trip the family we helped had been living in an abandoned schoolbus, they had a house that had started to be built the year before but had been left in uninhabitable conditions, we brought it up to the point where they could finally move in). The feeling of knowing you have truly helped someone, and to feel their gratefulness and thanks, was truly wonderful.
I've been on 2 short-term mission trips, both to Payakkaphum in Thailand. Teaching and evangelising. I think mission trips really give you a chance to re-experience God in a different way <3
I've been to Montana two years in a row with my church. We have summer camp for Native Americans. I want to travel out of the country as well, maybe to Russia or in southeast Asia.
Lesotho, southern Africa and I worked on MV Doulos (OM) and MVAnastasis (YWAM)
I've been on two missions trips with an organization called e3 Partners. They're focused not just on evangelism and church-planting, but heavily emphasize continued discipleship of new believers. I've spent a week in Lima, Peru and Ambato, Ecuador doing what is essentially door-to-door evangelism. Many times when I tell people that, they give me an Oh, you're one of those looks. But the culture is so different down there; when you knock on the door and ask if they have a few minutes to talk about God, they say, "Sure, just let me go turn off the stove. Do you want to come in?" (In Spanish, of course. We're teamed up with a translator and a local church member who is learning how to do this themselves after we leave.) Both trips have been some of the coolest experiences of my life. I would highly recommend doing short-term missions!
I went to Sweden 11 years ago for a few months to help build a new gym and replace a roof on a church building. And 9 years ago I went to Mexico for 2 weeks to build a house and add a second story to another. I was 14 and 16 at the time (respectively), and I think it was a really good experience.
I have been to puerto rico, Mississippi and Louisianna.... I love everyone of them and would go on another one in a heartbeat!
I've been to West Virginia to help drywall a conference center and work on a youth center.
Louisiana to clean up after Katrina
and just recently I've been to the Dominican Republic twice once in a group of 40, 2nd time in a group of four. I plan to go back there once or twice by next February. We're working in a Haitian refugee village - they've built churches, children's centers, we do VBS, medical clinic, and door to door evangelism. It's an awesome experience.
Well I'm an MK and grew up in Mexico.
But I did go to Africa (Uganda) two summers ago with my church. :)
I actually just got back from a missions trip. My tae kwon do school is run by our local Salvation Army, and our demonstration team is a missionary group. We went from Ohio to Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Colorado, and Missouri to perform and spread the Word.
(OK, be honest, how many of you are still trying to get over the 'martial arts school at the Salvation Army' bit?)
Yes. In fact, I got saved on a mission trip to Mexico. The irony is not lost on me, going on a trip when I wasn't even saved. But 10 years ago in that hot, dusty little town of Del Rio Texas - right across the border from Acuna, Mexico - God finally got my attention. He woke me up, I repented and He did an amazing work in not only me that night - but the entire team. I pray I never forget that.
i'm going to thailand in 2 weeks! yipee!
I've been on several mission trips...Poland and the Czech Republic. I used to live in Germany (military brat) and my youth group worked at the Elim Christian Center in Lowek Slaski, Poland many, many times and also worked w/Josiah Ministries in the Czech Republic twice. The mission in Poland became my family's (and many other families) pet place to help. Every time my family went there, we'd serve an American meal to the workers and their families at the mission. Elim does a lot for the town of Lowek Slaski, including feeding the local school kids lunch everyday (which is generally those kids' only meal of the day), running a soup kitchen in town, giving out clothes to those w/out, and making sure the people know who they and Who they stand for...I love Elim. I hope to return and work along side the Polish people again...that would be awesome!!
I went to Ch!na is 2002 for 8 weeks, and will be returning there in September for another trip :)
This summer and the one before it my youth group has done home mission trips, sleeping at our church and doing things in our community.
The summer before last we went to New Orleans to help the church that our church had adopted clear out their building and start repainting and replacing things.
Our youth minister has been thinking about going somewhere overseas next summer, so that's exciting.
