@mcsms@xanga - that's my favorite verse too! Do you also like 2 Chronicles 7:14?

why do you like Romans 8:28 so much?

  • soccergoalie3@xanga

I love Jeremiah 29:11! I know the exiles were being spoken to and not me but hey it feels as if these words were put into the Bible just for me!

  • k_stin@xanga

It's just like you said, different verses seem especially great at different times.  I love so many of them!  The one that I claim as my favorite is Acts 20:24.  Whenever I lose focus, that verse brings me back to my purpose.

  • Romans_837@xanga

Romans 8:37 - yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  (Hard to guess, huh?)

Found it from...my name.  Steven, meaning crowned one; and William, meaning conqueror/protector.  Crowned conqueror/protector ~> more than a conqueror.

    Ecclesiates 1:14
I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
A lot of people I was talking with recommended I read Ecclesiates and when I got to that verse it really hit me. I hang onto a lot of things I shouldn't and this verse really gets me through things, especially the hard things because it is all meaningless.

    2nd favorite is Ecclesiates 3:1-8
1 For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.
There is a time for everything and it all moves in cycles. To get to the good we have to endure the bad, but at least the bad can't last.

I haven't really change my favorite verse a lot. I used to have Pslam 23 and now I have Ecclesiates. I like some change but only when its time.

  • heartprincess@xanga

    One of my favorite verse...

"Draw close to God and God will draw close to you.. " (James 4:8)

  • bittersunday@xanga

Proverbs 26:13--"The sluggard says "There is a lion in the road!  A fierce lion roaming the streets!"  It makes me laugh every time I read it.  Proverbs is a very funny book, but that's my favourite verse in the entire Bible.

  • natooshkababooshka@xanga

I really like Psalm 23. So ordinary and forth-coming. Simple and up-lifting. I like it very much. Kind of long, but perfect none the same.  :P

The Lord is my shepherd, i shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death, i will fear no eveil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and i will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

    Jeremiah 29:14

"I will be found by you," declares the LORD.

There is more after verse 14, I just think a lot is said in that one part. I love it because it gets left out a lot from the preceding verses, but I think it says so much with so little. It's not just that God is with us, it's a promise that we will find him.  Which is so interesting I think, and beautiful. Because we as people cannot promise that to each other, but God is certain of it with us. He is certain that no matter where we are or how we are, He will be found by us.
  • vindication_sold_here@xanga

"I am poured out like water, and all my bones are disjointed; my heart is like wax, melting within me."
    Psalm 22:14
I found it by complete accident in an Apologetic version of the Bible.

  • joyful_odyssey

BE NOT AFRAID, ONLY BELIEVE. MARK 5:36. My mom taught me about this verse when I was yet 2 y.o. I cling to this promise all my life esp when I face so many challenges..

  • Jami86e

    Exodus 14:14

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.

  • Timi_in_England@xanga

I know it is an old time classic, but I like Psalm 23 a lot- when i visualize the images used in this psalm, i feel calmness and inner peace and i feel encouraged.

  • landlockedeyes@xanga

    Corinthians 3:1.
I saw a girl at school who'd replaced certain words with her name and decided I really liked the original version.

It's up on my wall right where I rest my head and I now know it off by heart.

  • Timi_in_England@xanga

Isaiah 49:16 says that God has a tattoo on his hand- it is my name-how cool is that? I definitely like the idea that God loves me so much he always remembers me this intimate way. "See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands".

  • SingingRagamuffin@xanga

When I was growing up, I didn't know much about God or religion. There was a girl in my school named Tabitha who was obviously very close to God. She talked about God all the time and she always did the right thing. I liked her and I wanted to be close to God like she was. But I hadn't always lived life in the right way as she had. I'd made a lot of mistakes.

And when I started going to church, I saw nothing but people who seemed to already have everything together in life. I didn't see where I was like them at all. They'd live perfect, clean lives from what I could tell. I needed to know that God would accept me despite all the wrong things I'd done.

The turning point for me was when I realized that Jesus came for sinners like me. We are not exempt from His love because of the mistakes that we have made. God loves me as much as He loves Tabitha or anyone at my church. And this was the verse that convinced me of that:

    Matthew 9:12, Luke 5:32
Jesus answered them, "Healthy people don't need a doctor—sick people do. My purpose is to invite sinners to turn from their sins, not to spend time with those who think themselves already good enough." (Living Translation)

  • thassos@xanga

My favourite verse has always and will always be  Romans 8v 1-4 but particularly "There is, therefore, now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus for the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of Sin and of Death"

  • Horses4MeForever@xanga

My favorite verse in the the bible is Psalm 42:11 "Why are you downcast oh my soul? Why are you so disturbed with in me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior my God." I found it when I was looking for comfort after going to through a really ruff time in my life. It makes me so happy to now that there really is some out there looking out for us. Some one that loves us no matter what.

  • dorfusdunkin

I love the passage that begins St John.  I won't list it as it's several verses but I always find it an encouraging word to read through and has been a firm favourite. As for others, I tend to change usually according to my circumstances.  My pastors gave us some advice at the beginning of the year by telling people to find five (or more) encouraging, uplifting passages or verses that we can turn to when we are going through a bad time.  It really is a good exercise and one which promotes positive thinking.  Another verse I've had in my head the past week or so:

Psalm 30 v 5 - For his anger is but for a moment and his favor for a lifetime.  Weeping may tarry for the night but joy comes with the morning.

  • paladin_carvin@xanga

Well, I don't much quote the Bible, other than when arguing with people. But I do have a favorite verse which is responsible for me being a Christian.

'All find what they Truly Seek' - The Last Battle [Narnia, book 7], CS Lewis

That verse gave me faith when the entire Bible failed to inspire.

  • simplecandor@xanga

jeremiah 17:9 the human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?

i always keep this in mind, because in this society, everyone is always saying "follow your heart. follow your gut feeling." while this may be good for some more trivial things, i know that if i followed my heart all the time, it would lead me to some pretty bad places.

the thing is, the human heart can be easily misled or corrupted. that's why i think daily devotions are so important. they help to clean out the heart and fill it with better things.
