Question of the Day: Favorite Passage
There are so many meanginful verses in the Bible that it's hard to pick just one as a favorite, especially when certain passages speak to us differently depending on what we're going through. What is your favorite verse/passage in the Bible, and how did you find it? Does change favorite verses often?

Oh I have so many....
Probably one of the main ones (which is really 2) is Romans 12: 1&2 from the Message bible,
1-2 So here's what I want
you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your
sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it
before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best
thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture
that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention
on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what
he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around
you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings
the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Isaiah 41:10 Be not afraid, for with thee I am, Look not around, for I am thy God, I have strengthened thee, Yea, I have helped thee, yea, I upheld thee, With the right hand of My righteousness.
This is one of many of my favorite verses...I think its my favorite right now. :D
ALL things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purposes. Romans 8:28
It's ALL good because of God.
isaiah 40:26
Lift up your eyes on high
And see who has created thse stars.
the One who leads forth their host by number,
He calls them all by name;
Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power,
Not one of them is missing.
i found it when i was doing a devo at a winter retreat with my high school youth group.
my favorite verses change, but not that often.
my favorite bible passage i just stumbled across one day. it was one of those "i'm going to open my bible randomly and let God speak to me" moments.
it's habakkuk 1:5
look at the nations and watch, and be utterly amazed. for i am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.
also, i love habakkuk 2:3
for the revelation awaits an appointed time, it speaks of the end and will not prove false. thought it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.
these verses are important to me because i found them last summer when God called me to be a missionary to ireland, and they always offer me comfort and help me stay focused.
I have tons! One of my individual favorite verses is Deuteronomy 1:31: "and in the desert. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place." I love the parent and child imagine. Not only does God carry me because it's His "duty" as God, but He carries me because He loves me like a Father and wants to hold me and help me through each challenge.
One of my favorite passages is Ezekiel 37:1-14. It's the story of Ezekiel's vision of the valley of dry bones, when God took a valley of mixed-up, long-dead bones and made them into a living army. It gives me chills. I imagine being Ezekiel and watching that happen. It reminds me that God is amazingly, spine-chillingly powerful and that no nation or generation is hopeless. No matter how long-dead in sin a society or people group is, God can breathe the breath of life back into them and make them an army for His service. On a personal level it reminds me that even when I feel like I'm dead because of my sins, God is powerful enough to bring me back to life inside.
Hebrews 11:1, always has been my favorite. My journalist teacher introduced it to me sophomore year of high school. "Now faith is
being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we
do not see"(Heb. 11:1, NIV).
my verse is the first verse I found on my own - reading as a teenager -- Romans 8:28
Matthew 28:20b... Surely I am with you always, unto the very end of the age
This verse brings me such comfort. I know I am never alone, and I need have no fear. I can't remember how I found it, just that when I read it, I knew it was a "Dear Jenny; Love, God" verse.
I also love this one, and I repeat it to myself often, as I mother my children:
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. Isaiah 40:11
I love knowing that the Lord is leading me in my parenting, and that He is always gentle and loving, and is there to call upon whenever I need Him... which is often!
Job 38 and 39. It's long, but I love it. It gives a window into God's true power. That He knows everything that goes on in nature. He is the creator and sustainer, and this passenge reminds you.
I don't remember how I found it, though. I think I was just skimming through Job and found it.
It switches between Isaiah 40, the first three chapters of Ephesians, and Romans 8 - all of them became especially meaningful to me when I was struggling with thoughts of suicide - God is so tender and compassionate, and He won't let any of His children slip through the cracks, ever.
Right now, it's Psalm 121:8
The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.
1st Timothy 1:5.
Colossians 1:15-23 - talking about the supremacy of Christ
I have read through the entire bible twice in my life and so I had read this passage a couple of times. The thing that really brought it to my attention and really made me think about it was the song by Thrice entitled "Image of the Invisible" off of the Vheissu album. Dustin Kensrue is known for influencing his lyrics with material from the bible and from CS Lewis. However after I read through this passage, I realized just how well this passage sums up how I view the world as a split between the seen and the unseen. Its a beautiful passage.
Mine has got to be Ephesians 3: 14-21. It definitely helps me remember to know the joy of an infinite and loving God.
14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,[c] 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
Is it okay if we can quote the entire Bible? I find that my favorite passages either trigger a memory of God's faithfulness or that one Scripture that brings you back to Him. For right now, my favorite passage is Psalm 103:12, which is:
"As far as the east is from the west, so far has HE removed our transgressions from us."
palms 37:3-5
3.trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
God know are wants and desires so all we have to do is trust, delight and commit to him. And he will see that we get what he wants us too.
2 Corinthians 5:17 [amp]:
"Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a
new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and
spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has
come!"
I'm not sure how I found it; it's been over 5 years now. This verse is one that I consider my life verse, but there have been different times where other scriptures are highlighted or what God is currently speaking to me.
the verse that I completely fashion my life around is the verse Isaiah 26:8
"Yes Lord, walking in the way of Your Truth, we wait eagerly for You, for Your Name and Your Renown are the desire of our souls."
the be all end all of life is about making the Fame of Jesus the passionate pursuit of your waking days....
that's where purpose is found... in the neverending, indelible eternal Name of Jesus exalted...
Philippians 3 really helped me after my friend was murdered, basically for her faith.
Also, this one has been pretty influential for me:
"Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young. But be an example to the believers in life, in love, in faith, in speech, and in purity."
deuteronomy 31:6
Jeremiah 29:11.
I have a few top 3 that always rotates as my favorite depending on what kind of situation I'm going through
The week I lost my job, I received a letter from my sponsor child in Colombia, and this is the scripture she included in that letter:
"This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
God's perfect timing... Amazingly, that letter was written about 3 months before I received it. As my life changes, so does my "favorite verse", but this promise has remained a constant. --Miss Goldenrod
My all time faviorite verse is Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose
I love this verse so much becasue it gives me hope and reassures me that no matter what's going on around me or how bad the situation looks that it is ALL working together for my good in the end. I may not understand it or even like it but I love God so I know that it's working together for my good but His glory and to me that is the best comfort when I am going through.
I have a few verses that I am fond of but that one has been my favorite for at least 2 years now. I also like 2 Chronicles 7:14
Ecclesiastes 3:1
For every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens
I found it from one of my friends sharing it in a youth camp a few years ago. I love it because it reminds me that God has a purpose for everything and we just have to be patient and go with His timing. It's been my favorite verse in the Bible since I first found it.
