  • Do Not Worry- easier said than done...

    I'm getting a little nervous, because I'm almost out of coffee.

    Actually, we're almost out of everything.

    Since my husband and I moved to Texas, we have been living on a very small salary to share between the two of us. We have also been sharing a house and living expenses with a middle-aged lady who is in ministry as well. We have very minimal bills, and yet it has been a huge struggle every month just to get by.
    And yet, we always have. Every month, miracle by miracle, the Lord has provided for us everything we need. Sometimes it is down to the very last minute, but is it really? Does He not know the exact moment we need something?  

    It is so easy to be distracted by what I don't have, and become blind to the hundreds of blessings and miracles the Lord is doing for us every day. I start thinking about all of these things that I want or even think I need, but really, the Lord knows what I need and is taking care of me. He always has and he always will, and I need to rest in knowing that He is trustworthy.

    Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!...your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well." (Luke 12:22-31)

    I must have read that passage of scripture a million times, and yet reading it today something huge stuck out to me. Jesus said that worrying will not add a single hour to our lives, and goes on to say that that is a very little thing. Adding an hour to our life would be so simple for Him! Yet that is so beyond our human comprehension.

    We start thinking in terms of our culture and society that says we need to get ahead, we need to prepare...and surely, there comes a time when the Lord will tell us to do something like that. I think how the Lord told Joseph to prepare and fill the storehouses for the 7 year famine. But I think more often than not, He calls us to rely on Him every day, moment by moment, to supply all of our needs.

    James 1:2-4 says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

    We can consider it an honor that He is testing our faith, because He is using it to perfect and mature us. He is faithful and will take care of us. We just have to trust Him!
