  • A Mother's Fears

Today I took my little boy and held him in my arms,
I looked in to those big brown eyes and was captured by their charm.
Then all at once it hit me that one day he'd be a man,
It was with this amazing thought that all my fears began.

Would I teach him properly the way to love a wife,
The way to raise their children, and live a godly life?
How to listen to the voice of the Father up above,
And how to introduce to friends the wonders of His love?

Would he earn an honest quid, and put food upon the table,
And serve the Lord and others, the best that he was able?
Would he make a godly mark on the world in which he dwelt?
As I thought about these things, my fears began to melt.

God has given ME this child, because no other could,
Mold his heart and character, and teach him to be good.
Or show him how to read and write or how to play with others.
God had chosen ME to be his only mother.

So now I hold my child close and think of how I can,
Teach my tiny son, how to be a godly man.
My fears are healed by the knowledge that somewhere up above,
God had given ME the job of this little child to love.

I wrote this years ago for my 'big boy' - he is now 14

What beautiful sentiments!  If my mother had written something like that for me when I was born, I would feel so honored to be her mother.  I hope that you have shared those words with your son.  I think in times like these, young people can benefit from all the encouragement and inspiration they can get.

Sweet post....This sort of thing makes me tear up. Please, please, please love your children. Make sure they know you love and care for them every day. They truly are gifts from God, and we are given the privilege and honor by being chosen as their caregivers. My special gift, my precious son, was recently taken from me....what I wouldn't do to have him back.  XOXO

Thanks so much for all your encouraging comments.
I'll let you in on a little story...
Our local TV network was running a story on Internet Identity Fraud, and suggested you type your name into google to see what came up.
My son typed all the various family names in and when he came too mine, he came running out.
"Mum did you write a poem about me when I was little?"  "Yup I sure did," I replied.
"Some lady has it on her internet site with your name on it, a poem about me, except she has made it fit her son,".
I replied that I thought that was really cool, she had credited it correctly, and she had obviously been touched by it.   I had submitted it about 10+ years ago too the Above Rubies website and they had it on their page for years.
She had seen it and was blessed by it and so had used it as a prayer for her son.
And then, my son all those years later was blessed when he found the poem randomly on the internet. Cool huh?
    Bless you
