America: Believing in a god...but not THE God
If you've watched any news today, you've seen a report on the Pew Research Center's latest report. The aspect of the poll that I found extremely disturbing was that 70% of the nation believes that "many religions can lead to eternal life." Among Christians, those numbers are not too different. Following are the percentages of those Christians who believe Jesus is NOT the only way:Jehovah's Witness: 16%
Mormon: 39%
Evangelical: 59%
Protestant: 66%
Orthodox: 72%
Catholic: 79%These numbers mean that some people reading this believe "many religions can lead to eternal life." Well, I follow the Bible, and if I believe one part, I ought to believe all parts. Most particularly the part where Jesus says "I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life. No one comes to the Father but through me." John 14:6
Which part of Jesus' words are difficult to understand?! I have questions about some things in the Bible, but which part of "nobody gets into eternal paradise with me and my Dad without me" do approximately 65% of Christians who say they believe in Jesus not get?! I personally believe some Christians don't want to believe in those words...
This isn't something we can argue with each other about. You believe or you don't.
I believe enough in Jesus and in what the Bible says to take a chance that I'm wrong about him. I believe enough in the the miracles which have personally happened to me, in the circumstances that could only be Divinely orchestrated, and in the sense of overwhelming love that every so often washes over me in waves.
I'm willing to take the gamble that I'm wrong and will end up in an eternal torment or some other state because I believe in Jesus and what he said in the clearest of language. At the end of this world, when Jesus stands as the only Judge before all people, I'll have just that to say.
Whether you're Christian or not, do you believe there are other ways to eternal life than through Jesus?

@billlllo@xanga - I have absolutely NOTHING against women. And It's not the same at all... my comment about "to help man" wasn't about enslavement... it's about building up. And even the president of the US was originally designed to help the citizens of the US, even though he was in a place of power. And EVERYONE (yes, men included) are supposed to serve... just like women are to serve their husbands, husbands are to serve their wives, and together they are to serve God.
Yeah--keep thinking that. Keep believing that everything's built and created on fair and equal grounds.
Wake up. You live in America where women can't possibly work and raise their children at the same time because the sexist government won't provide hours where men and women can take time off to pick up their kids. So people like you say that women are supposed to serve their husbands by staying at home and doing the same five things 24/7, and not get ahead anywhere in life.
Again, people like you are the reason why myself and all feminists think that women and gender studies should be a requirement in college, because ignorance like yours and the majority of the Christian community make Jesus look like a douche bag.
Congratulations on not being able to come up with any valid support for your abstract argument.
@jordannb@xanga - and the other reason why you still think like you're a fourth grader is because you still are mr.iwasbornin1994.
go and live the real fucking world and get back to us with some real results.
I don't know if this argument has been presented yet out of all the 103 comments here so far. But first thing is first is that I believe that Jesus is the only way. Why?
Well going back to probably the simplest form of logic, I believe that truth is absolute. I was biologically born in one place and I was born on one date. That is the truth. I cannot be born biologically twice in 2 places at the same time. Therefore, I think this example pretty clearly comes to the conclusion that truth is absolute.
If truth is absolute and only facts can true. How is it that God can be one god and several gods at once? Logically that just does not make sense.
You can throw the Trinity argument at me but I believe that is a different case in that the Trinity is still concerned with one God even though there is 3 parts.
@LoveTodayx3 - I, too, am Catholic and I agree 100%. I just can't believe that people like Ghandi wouldn't make it to heaven because they chose the "wrong" religion. When it comes down to it, all religions teach their followers the same - to act in a compassionate way towards their brothers, and what's "wrong" about that?
This is great. I agree with you. I had my own questions with faith, and it wasn't until I truly accepted God and Jesus as our true saviors that I felt the love you speak of. I believe strongly and completely that only through true faith will God and Jesus work your life to the best it can be.
