Sunday School Games- Part 2
I wrote a post a month ago about how I was in desperate need for Sunday School Game ideas. I didn't get too much feedback, so I came up with my own game! I have K-5th graders, who don't want to listen and they only want to PLAY. My favorite game to play with them is a revised version of musical chairs. I'll call this the "Miss Plumeria's Run Around the Room" game. This game is great because you can let the kids run around, scream, and let out all the excess energy they have before sermon time.
Here are the instructions:
1. Set up rows of chairs and ask the kids to pick a seat.
2. Have them all sit down in their seat.
3. Music plays (you can use a guitar, piano, cd player, etc).
4. Kids can run around the entire room, stretch, jump around, make noise, and whatever else they need to do to let out all their energy, but they can't run around the chairs.
5. Music stops and they have come sit back in their seats. Not just any seat, but their original seat.
6. Last one to sit back in their seat is OUT.
7. Keep going until there's only one kid left. And then when the kids ask why we played this game, you can say there's a biblical lesson for this.
The lesson is:
The music in the game represents the time we have on earth. Our time here is temporary and fleeting because in the game, the music always stops. The seat represents the goal which is expanding God's kingdom and loving and obeying Him. So - just as you ran hard to get to your seat, we should work and live hard to doing kingdom expanding work and loving God until we come face to face with God.
Do you think this game will work with your kids? If you have any Sunday School game suggestions please share. They would be much welcomed!

That sounds like a great game, and a great lesson to go along! My parents used to teach a 5th grade Sunday School class.... but I don't remember what they used to do with the kids for games.
That is such a cool idea for a game. We could have used that at Girl Scout camp last week to calm the girls down.
love it - i am not creative and i am always looking for more games! back in my Child Evangelism days I think I might have been able to help you, but I haven't exercised those brain muscles in a while... ;) Cute class!

These are not necessarily Christian games or Sunday School games, but I was a children's pastor for a long time, and I can tell you, with a little imagination and creativity, you can adapt almost anything and make a lesson out of it.
Be blessed!
That sounds like a very interesting game. It would be a lot of fun for kids.
Here's a site I use for games:

I'm not sure about inspiration but I do remember when I went to sunday school (allllll those years ago) we did a lot of singing with actions and used to love it. It also helped us remember bible verses, bible stories and the actual order of the books of the bible. It's great because I still get to act like a kid teaching the same songs to my lil cousins etc. I never get tired of singing the 'Father Abraham had many sons' song. And I still sing the Bible books song in my head if I suddenly wonder where to locate a certain book.
We also had this HUGE set of 'felt' images in order to tell stories which was great because it got the younger ones involved in telling the stories. Basically it was just a large board of felt, with different figures to stick on it depicting many of the bible tales. I suppose something like that could be adapted where you get the children to make the figures and then tell the stories.
We also made puppets from paper mache to do a puppet show of different bible tales. Most kids love getting involved with 'crafty' activities. You could even have them create puppets and have them come up with their own mini puppet show of their own with a Christian message. Challenge them to tell a story about love or prayer etc and see what they come up with.
Sounds good. I never played games in Sunday School
Haha sounds fun
