  • Love well...

    by miss hibiscus

This past weekend, my church invited a musician named Trace Bundy to share his music during our service.  I had never heard of him before, but after hearing him perform, I'm a big fan.  Trace is an acoustic guitarist, but his style of playing is different from anything I've heard before.tb

As much as I was inspired and encouraged by his playing, I was equally moved by his introduction to the song he shared which is called, "Love Song."  It is his personal reminder to do everything, including playing his guitar, out of love.  He referenced the famous verses from 1 Corinthians 13 which basically say that even if we have awesome gifts and can do spectacular things, we are nothing if we do not have love.

He said something in particular that struck a chord in me.  I'm paraphrasing here, but it went something like, "When I get to heaven, I don't think God is going to be impressed with my guitar skills... He's going to ask if I loved well."

Trace Bundy is clearly gifted and I believe he truly plays for the glory of God.  I also believe that this is true for us - that we are gifted in our own ways and want to use these gifts for God's glory.  I think God loves that and delights in that, but at the end of the day, he's not going to be impressed by how well Trace plays the guitar, or how well I can sing, or how well you perform surgeries, write, play football, or program code.

He's going to ask us, "Did you love well?"

That's one of those questions we should probably all ask ourselves at the end of the day.

    Huh??

That's a great admonission.  However, it seems like everyone talks an aweful lot about love nowadays.  -Especially in the church.

But when it comes down to it, do they love (and strive to love more perfectly) as the Bible tells us to?

Do they truly love the hurting, the wounded, and the poor and needy; or do they only love those who love them?  Do they do their best to care about everyone equally?  Or do they act people with partiality?

Sorry, but I´m not a christian, in fact, I hate church, and the fucking Pope and all that shit.

    But I respect your choice.

@ Miss Nancy - The Pope is Catholic, and not all Christians are Catholic. Most of them aren't...

Anyways! What I really wanted to say is, this makes me want to look into Trace Bundy's music, and I really love 1 Cor. 13!!

Koolou was talking about how people tend to love with partiality, and it reminded me of James (I forgot which chapters) where he talks about how you shouldn't be showing favoritism to others. James is my favorite New Testament book!

I've never heard anyone play like this except Kaki King (she played for the music in August Rush). Actually, I think this might be better.

So very true....but like someone said, we shouldn't even wait that long to ask ourselves this. We SHOULD wonder that everyday.

i wud want to answer that honestly... i love my best. did i love well? i would never know if my love was good enough that pleased God. I would only humble myself and ask that if I had done well....

  • monster_mac@xanga

Wow, I gotta learn how to play like that lol.

    @Miss_NancyCallahan@xanga -

Whoa no way! seriously? Not being a Christian, and disliking the pope is one thing, but hating the church is another thing entirely... The church has done so much more for humanity and individuals than any group of philanthropists could ever dream to. The church has saved lives, changed lives, and even altered history. The church and religion in general are probably the two most proactive things humanity has to offer. Surely you can't earnestly dislike all of that.

loving well for me is a lifestyle. even when i am upset i do my best to love well because God could take any of us at any given time and i would feel terrible if someone i loved randomly died and didnt know that i loved them. i see why i say i love you at the end of a conversation because i want to leave my friends and family with the thought that i love them. the last thing that you could think about me.

Some people wonder how they can "fit" God into their lives, when in reality, there should never be any separation. Good post!
