  • The Next Generation

    by miss hibiscus

Sorry, this isn't an entry about Star Trek...

And sorry for the short hiatus!  I've had some writer's block for the past few days and some other things have been occupying my mind and time - don't worry though, they were mostly good things!  I actually want to share one with you all...

MentoringHands My church has been going through a sermon series called, "Who's Next? Stepping up and sliding over" which is basically about helping bring up the next generation of Christians in the church, or stepping up if you are the next generation.  My pastor defines the next generation as anyone who is younger than you.  So as a 20-something, my next generation would be the college kids and teenagers.  If I were 60 years old, my next generation could be those in their 50s, and so on and so forth.

The pastor actually asked us to think about a specific person that we could help bring along in their faith.  And it's funny how God works, because as I've been thinking about this over the past few weeks, God has revealed a very specific "next generation" person in my life!  We don't have a formal mentorship (because he's a boy and I'm a girl), but this is someone that God has very clearly told me to help along in his journey.  Right now, that mostly looks like prayer and connecting him with men in my church.  It doesn't seem like much, but I'm excited because I know God is doing something big, even through the little things.

I don't think this idea is specific to my church though; it should be something we all think about as Christians.  Who are you going to help bring along in the Christian faith?  Who is your "next generation?"

Or maybe you are the "next generation"!  What are you waiting for and how can we help you?
