  • Memorial Day

On Monday, May 26, 2008, we will celebrate Memorial Day in the United States.  This usually means major sales, barbecue, beach, the beginning of summer, the Indy 500, and a day off from work.

But the true purpose of this holiday is to remember American men and women who have died in military service for the U.S.  I don't personally know anyone who died in military service, but I do have a great deal of respect for those who serve or have served.

We all have differing opinions on the current war, but I think most of us can agree that supporting our troops is important, whether that means bringing them back ASAP or continuing funding so they can do their jobs well.  One great way that I've found to support our soldiers is by sending care packages.

AnySoldierUS If you are interested in supporting the troops this way, I recommend going through www.anysoldier.com.  Soldiers list their immediate needs like toiletries to more "fun" items like DVDs.  You can purchase anything on the list and ship it to the appropriate contact person who will distribute the goods to his/her unit.  Personal letters, prayers, and words of encouragement are always welcomed by them too.  The website has more instructions and helpful information, so check it out!

In any case, Happy Memorial Day!  Enjoy your day off, wear sunblock, wait 30 minutes after eating to swim, and don't drink and drive. (And if you plan on watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - *HIGH FIVE*!)
