talents for everyone
Starting this week, the (U.S.) government will distribute economic stimulus checks, as promised. Checks may be as much as $600 per person (plus $300 for each child per household).

So, how do you plan on using this money?
The economics major in me says: spend, spend, spend!
The future grad student in me says: save, save, save!
The former missionary in me says: give, give, give!
What are some ways you will spend your stimulus checks? Pay off debt? Save? Vegas? New laptop/tv/camera/etc.?
In general, how does Jesus factor into your finances?
I have a hard time remembering Jesus in my spending. I do give regularly to charities and Christian organizations, but on a daily basis, am I glorifying God in the way I spend my money? Or rather, am I wisely spending the money that he has given me?
For example, I spent $20 yesterday on makeup. I'm happy with my purchase, but maybe I should have saved that money. Or donated it. Or given it to Mr. Oak to use towards his Parable of the Talents test with his youth group. $20 can go a long way...
Sometimes it's tough to remember that surrendering to Christ means surrendering everything.

With some of the money, I'm so getting some Yankees tickets. :)
But yes, that is a good reminder...to always keep Jesus first, including when it comes to spending. :)
first and foremost, tithe because what I give back to God can't be taken away nor taxed =), then I will probably pay off bills and keep praying I will get more money soon.
This couldn't have come at a better time. I am taking a "Financial Freedom" class at a local church and the general idea is "How would you spend God's money?" Because since we are here for a short amount of time and it's because of God that we are here, then basically "our" money is HIS. It's harder (for most people) to spend other people's money--you want to spend it right, isn't that correct? So, if we DID think of the money we have as being God's anyway, maybe we would spend it more careful and use it for what we know is good in our hearts. I've actually used this concept a few times since taking this course and it's worked.
For me.....I'm still coming to grips that MY money is HIS money, so I'm not sure what I will do with my half. Most likely pay a bill off. We're working on being DEBT FREE, so.........but the other half of me wants to do something FUN with it!! Like purchase a new SLR camera...preferably a Canon. Maybe an additional lens or two.
Happy spending! ; )
amen
my husband and i lead small groups from our 270 church association on mission trips overseas - that's totally volunteer, so on top of living and school/seminary/soon to be having a kid - well, there isn't anything to spare. so this money, like all of our money, will be first headed toward tithes, then toward what our ministry needs and then our needs. God is totally faithful, and this is just another gift from Him to be used how He wants each of us to use it. :)
