  • Country Music

    plumeria  by miss plumeria

I'm a fan of country music.  (Okay, you can give me your weird looks and pass judgment now. )  But I like it because the lyrics really speak to me.  Most country singers are Christians or come from Christian roots so a lot of the lyrics have God, Jesus, or angels in it.  The songs have so much meaning and depth and some of them are really inspirational because it talks about how they were in the darkest place, but somehow they turned to God and he saved them.  What a great testimony!  For example, Carrie Underwood’s song, Jesus Take the Wheel, is about a person who had a bad year and was losing faith in God.  All of a sudden, while she’s driving, she spins on a thin sheet of ice, realizes that she doesn't want to live her life alone anymore and asks Him to take control the wheel of her life.  Isn’t that powerful and amazing?  Every time I hear this song, I want to repent for always trying to live my way and ignore God’s sovereignty in my life.

Next time you’re on iTunes or at a music store, check out the country music section and listen to the lyrics.  Let’s all be fans of country music TOGETHER!

I would not say Country music is "more" Christian - I have seen plenty of country videos and heard many country songs that obviously were not. I think the only reason Country seems more "Christian" is because it is similar in sound to bluegrass and southern gospel music. I do not think it has to do wiht the lyrics themselves. I know plenty of songs from other genres that are "inspirational". Personally I like the sound or Rock and Metal/Nu-Metal and hate feeling like I am not a "Christian" at times cause I like that over country, when neither one is "Christian".

I do, however, almost always listen to Christian music. I like Christian Rock (Skillet, Disciple, Pillar, Red, Flyleaf, Fireflight). Actually I am going to s Skillet concernt tonight (which is good) but some of my youth cannot go because thier parents do not like how Skillet "sounds" (not good).

@Doubledb - Flyleaf isn't classified as a Christian Rock Group. Although the members are Christian, they have said themselves that they do not classify the band as such. Their beliefs come through, I will admit, but to give the blanket classification of Christian Band, isn't becoming of Flyleaf.

    However, to each their own.

Cheers, revelife, on an interesting entry, however.

I wouldn't so much put it that Christians are country but to the belief that Country music musicians do sing alot about God and Jesus...I

Particularly like Tim Mcgraw's song Drugs or Jesus...and I think he is Christian...I like your out look though...very inspireing.
