The Holy Land... in Florida???
::update::
Ok, so I guess not many of you have heard of The Holy Land Experience or been there. Either that or this topic totally doesn't interest you at all!
Well, let me add a little to this entry and conclude with a real question.
I brought this up because I wonder if places like this really can help cause a spiritual awakening or revival in an individual. I know God can use anything and anyone to display His love and glory, but things like this make me a little skeptical (not of God, but of people's involvement and true motivation). I mean, a theme park?
I also heard from church friends about the Sight & Sound theatres (located in Pennsylvania and Missouri) which put on huge productions of Biblical stories. They pump a lot of money and effort into the theatre, lights, sound, sets, etc. but I still see it and think it's kind of... cheesy.
But in the end, I think these are supposed to be just a few more tools for conveying the Gospel message to others. As a Campus Crusade for Christ member in college, I was trained to use "The 4 Spiritual Laws" booklet and things of that nature. I never felt fully comfortable with these tools because it seemed so robotic. But at the same time, I know people who love these tools because they have helped them explain the Gospel very easily.
I suppose my question(s) to you all is this: Do you use these kinds of tools (whether booklets or theatre productions or [you name it]) and how have they helped you to tell others about Jesus Christ? If you don't use these kinds of things, how do you tell people about your faith? Or even, do you tell others about Jesus?
I'm not judging your responses here; I'm just curious to know what other Christians actively do to fulfill the Great Commission. Personally, I used to use the booklets a lot (in CCC), but have also made an effort to write down my personal testimony so I can easily tell it to others. To be perfectly honest though, I haven't done much witnessing in quite a while, aside from mentioning that I go to church on the weekends. I'd like to be more proactive about this though.
I have heard about The Holy Land experience near Orlando, FL on two separate occasions over the past week or so. This is the first time I've ever heard about this.
Can someone tell me what it is? It sounds like a theme park with the theme of Jerusalem...? I mean, are there rides? Do you take a rollercoaster through the Temple Mount? Is there a Lazy Jordan River? And what is the concession food like??
Ok, seriously I don't want to make too much fun since someone said it was one of the most amazing places they've been to. I haven't bothered to Google it yet because I want to hear from any of you personally if you have been there and/or know what it is.
As someone who has visited the real Jerusalem, Israel before, this sounds really hokey! Please enlighten me!

Eh, it does sound cheezy to me...
it reminds me of "Bible-Land" from the movie Fletch
